Prabhu: Maharāja, you were explaining how… Just to make a… Just to start, ISKCON needs to deal with protection issues.
His Holiness Bhaktividyā Pūrṇa Mahārāja: ISKCON needs to deal with protection issues. But who protects?
Prabhu: Exactly.
HH BVPS Mahārāja: No, who protects? Hmm? Temple presidents?
Prabhu: The kṣatriyas.
HH BVPS Mahārāja: But it’s authority. Do you understand? Authority protects. Right? The husband protects the wife, the parents protect the child, the teacher, the student, you know, the king, the citizens. Right? So, but that means that if we are talking about protection, that means we also have to be talking about authority. So, generally speaking, those who jump up and down the most about protection are the ones that are, least have faith in authority. You know what I am saying? So it is contradictory. The two go together.
Otherwise why, let’s say in… Now it’s what? Nine [2009], so 1995, yeah, 1995, 1996, it’s getting start strong about this whole “protecting everybody” kind-of thing. Does anybody feel more protected? You go around. What position in society is secure? Where does someone… Because why? Because in that, in those 12 years of trying to establish all that, there has never been an element of trying to establish a principle of authority. Individuals establish their authority, but is it based on the principle of authority? So, until you establish the principle of authority, how do you have protection? Because protection means you are protected by an authority. Right? Otherwise you are not protected, you have to do it yourself. So the modern thing is: do it yourself. Then at the same time, “But where is the protection?” It doesn’t go together. You can’t have your cake and eat it also. That’s the thing. They want both. And after having the cake, eating the cake, they also want to be able to go, sell it in the market and make profit. So it doesn’t even end there. It is not even enough that they have to have the cake and eat it, they want to be able to sell it and make money.
So, it is not working. Why is it not working? Because the science of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is not being understood. Basic points of philosophy are there, but this is also philosophy. It is just not taking the philosophy far enough. And so, if you want to work on a sophisticated thing, then you have to know the science more.
